The Open Cow Dog Challenge is the original trial that was started in 2017 attracting over 160 competitors. It is from here that the ASDS has expanded and grown from year to year. 2018 saw 216 entries into this challenge, and 2019 is sure to see these numbers continue to grow.
Now in it's 3rd year, the challenge will be held over 4 days, in the main indoor arena at the AELEC.
The Open Cow Dog Challenge requires a handler and stock dog to maneuver 3 head of cattle through a series of obstacles within a 5 minute time limit. It is judged by 2 judges over a qualifying round followed by a top 40 round. The top 15 competitors will then move forward to compete in the final for a total prize purse of $10,000.
The Open Cow Dog Challenge is affiliated with the NSW Working Stock Dog Association and is run under the association rules and is open to working stock dogs of ALL breeds and ages.
