The ASDS Open 3 Sheep Challenge is being held for the second time after its great success in 2018. Over 80 dogs competed in the inaugural event last year and ASDS is looking forward to hosting even more competitors in this years challenge. At this stage, the 2019 event will start on Sunday 27th October to allow competitors to compete at the trial at Orange Field Days.
In the Open 3 sheep Challenge the handler and dog work 3 sheep using whistle and voice command around 3 obstacles before penning them with a 10 minute time frame.
This challenge will be held in the indoor arena at AELEC utilizing a slightly smaller arena than the traditional 15 minute course. It is open to all dogs and will be judged by 2 judges over a qualifying round followed by a top 20 round. The top 10 dogs will compete in the final.
The ASDS Open 3 Sheep Challenge is affiliated with the NSW Sheep Dog Workers Association and competitors will be eligible for Championship points.
Course rules will be similar to all 3 sheep associations in Australia and a course diagram will be available before nominations open on August 1st 2019.
